Abstract

Sign and gesture recognition offers a natural way for human-computer interaction. Systems are built which run processes, launched by typical contactless gestures, assuming that each gesture captured is recognized, and the right process associated to the right class of gesture. The aim of this work is to present HC a Hand Control human-computer interface ap-plication using computer vision methods to detect hand gestures. Gesture recognition is a topic in computer science and language technology with the goal of interpreting human gestures via mathematical algorithms. Gestures can originate from any bodily motion or state but commonly originate from the face or hand. Current focuses in the field include emotion recognition from hand gesture recognition. Many approaches have been made using cameras and computer vision algorithms to interpret sign language. Therefore, this paper is focused on discussing the use of natural, dynamic non-contact hand gestures only, although recognition is the primary motivation for this research.
